Dusted Heart Brownies

Anyone planning on baking brownies for friends or family can sprinkle a little sweetness and create an even more alluring treat for the game night snack table. Whether playing cards is on the menu or not, Dusted Heart Brownies will make an attractive and charming addition to any game night. Placing the easy to apply suit of hearts on top of delicious brownies will be like little winning aces.

The first step for creating Dusted Heart Brownies is to choose a brownie recipe. If time is short, a quick and easy brownie mix from Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines can be mixed up. For those with a little extra time on hand, the following recipe for brownies will suit any game player’s tummy.

Start with:

  • 1 cup of butter

Melt or soften butter and then add the rest of the ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Mix well and spread into a 9×9 greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until fork slips out clean.

While the brownies are cooling, trace or draw an image of a heart on a piece of paper and cut out a stencil to be used. The stencil should be cut to fit on the size of the brownie desired. Although only a dusted heart brownie is shown, all card suits can be created. A platter of card suited brownies (hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades) could be displayed instead of only hearts.

Once the brownies are cooled, cut the brownies into squares with a sharp knife. Place the heart stencil securely and snugly overtop the brownie and dust or sprinkle with white confectioners’ sugar. Carefully lift the stencil off; shaking the excess white powdered sugar on the stencil into a bowl.

Helpful Tip: The smoother the brownie surface and the tighter the stencil can be placed on to the top of the brownie, the crisper the heart shape (and other card suits) will appear.

Gather the Dusted Heart Brownies and position on a serving tray.

This simple recipe, followed up by the dusting of a few shapes on the top of brownie, creates a wonderful and welcoming snack for a game night of fun with family and friends.  The added sweetness may not help the creator win the games, but it certainly will win some smiles.
