In July 2011 the movie of Captain America premiered in theatres across the country creating an appeal for vintage Captain America items.

Collecting board games is an interesting way to gather and display what was once popular.  They reflect the history of the times.  As the old saying goes, history repeats itself.  And so it does; Captain America is popular once again.  The latest movie in 2011, bringing attention to new Captain America merchandise on the floor of stores, increases the desire to collect older items.  These items would include two Captain America board games of the past.

Captain America made his first appearance in 1941 in the Comic Book Series taking after his name.  The character of Captain America/Steve Rodgers began as a test subject for the creation of a Super-Soldier fighting team.  The secret serum worked.  Steve Rodgers changed from a weak, timid, soldier into a super-man of excellence and perfection.

However during the process the only Doctor who knew the formula for the transformation was killed.  Steve Rodgers was the first and would be the only Super-Soldier created by Dr. Erskine. Rodgers later took the identity of Captain America and used his extraordinary abilities to fight for all that was good and honorable.

In 1966 Milton Bradley published a Captain America Board Game.  The object of the game was to be the first player to have his pieces of Captain America and the character of Bucky reach the lookout space.  Although a basic and simple game, the images of the Destroyer, the Mandarin, and the Sky Spider brings life from the comic books into action on the game board.  The game originally came with a free comic book and is one of the reasons why this particular game is sought after.  The comic book is often missing from the game, so if purchasing, prices will vary on whether it is included or not.

Then in 1977 Milton Bradley published a newer version of the game.  Play of this game is essentially the same as the one in 1966 but the two pieces which the players must have reach a final Satellite Lookout space are Captain America and the Falcon.  With the help of the other Avengers  of Thor, Iron Man, Wasp, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Vision, and Yellow Jacket (which are depicted on the board), Captain America and the Falcon can pass the Villains of Batroc the Leaper, Modok, Doc Doom, Dr. Faustus, and the Red Skull  to win the game.

Board games strive to bring adventure and fun into the home.  Because these games illustrate the many characters of the Captain America movie and comic books, they are highly collectible.  Captain America was a hero and fought for freedom in the games.   Today he does the same- in the game and out of it.
