Bursting with friendly creepy-crawly creatures, young children will love playing the card game of Don’t Bug Me!
The game of Don’t Bug Me will keep younger children busy while exploring and learning about all sorts of amusing insects and creatures. Recommended for ages 4 and up, Don’t Bug Me is full of interesting facts and fascinating details about the different bugs contained on the cards. Thirteen individual creatures are introduced in the game (four cards of each delightful character for a total of 52 cards).
The game is played in the similar manner of the popular card game of ‘Go Fish’. The object of the game is to get the most matched creatures by asking other players.
The game begins by dealing out 7 cards to each player and fanning the remaining cards (face-down) in a central location for all players to reach. Taking turns, a player asks another player (of their choice) if he has a creature which matches one found within his own hand. If the player asked does hold the creature asked for in his hand, he must give it (or them-if the player holds more than one) to the player.
The player continues asking other players, one at a time, until someone does not hold a creature being asked for. When a player does not have a card being asked for, he says, “Don’t Bug Me!” The player then reaches in the fanned out center pile of cards and picks any card. It is then the next players turn.
Players lay down completed sets (four matched cards) at any time they achieve them. If a player runs out of cards, he picks a card from center, but his turn passes. Once all cards are used, the player with the most matches wins.
Children love to shout, “Don’t Bug Me!” This added feature to the game turns the ordinary 52 card game of ‘go fish’ into an exciting bug battle. Another wonderful addition is of course the images and facts found on the cards.
The thirteen bugs of the game are Ladybug, Bee, Butterfly, Spider, Firefly, Centipede, Beetle, Ant, Caterpillar, Moth, Grasshopper, Dragonfly, and Snail. Some examples of facts that are given and written along the side of the cards are as follows:
- A Ladybug’s bright color warns birds that it tastes terrible
- Grasshoppers can fly up to 3,000 feet in the air
- The Emperor moth can detect another moth over a mile away
Reading these details to younger children will help teach them about some amazing bugs. Playing the game of Don’t Bug Me will not only be a lot of fun, it will also help children discover, explore and take an interest in the active world around them.
