The top 2011 board games for Christmas starts with the ABC’s.  A is for Angry Birds.  B is for Blokus.  C is for Carcassonne.

Angry Birds: Knock on Wood is a game recently published by Mattel which has brought the popular phone app to the family table.  Like in the original app game there are the egg-stealing Pigs and the Angry Birds.  Recommended for ages five and up the game is quick and simple to play.  There are cards in the game which direct players to build different structures.  Angry birds are then launched to destroy; and game play moves on to the next level. Exciting for all ages.

Blokus offers fun for all ages too.  The game can be played with a wide variety of ages without having any player feeling uninvolved.  A board game which can do this is considered a great family game and will make a perfect Christmas gift for under the tree.

Carcassonne is a game which players create the board while playing.  Tiles are placed down to create roads, build cities, and form monasteries.  Followers are deployed to the different areas and points are scored based on the strategy of making claims.   Carcassonne continues to be found on top one lists because of both the fun and strategic qualities.

If still wondering what game after the ABC’s, players could form a winning team while playing the cooperative game of Forbidden Island.

Forbidden Island is a game where all the players work together to try and collect 4 sacred items and escape before the island sinks into the abyss.  Although the game is recommended for ages 10 and up, younger children can play with the help of other players, since the players plan and strategize together.  Forbidden island is an adventurous, entertaining game which will add fun to any Christmas.

A family could decide to have some laughs with Hedbanz.

Hedbanz is another great family game.  Children (or adults) who watch the icarly show may have already seen this game being played.  Attached to the forehead with a headband is a card which displays an image of a food, animal, or familiar object.  Able to be seen by everyone but the person wearing the card, the players ask questions and try to determine exactly what their card is.

From launching birds to guessing cards and then off to creating railroad lines for a refreshing ride for the whole family, the game Ticket to Ride is a must for any Christmas tree.

Ticket to Ride by Days of Wonder stimulates everyone to set off for various destinations.  Traveling across North America, players try to visit as many cities as they can by completing train routes.  Longest routes or being able to reach their initial long distance city offers players more points.  Ages 8 and up will enjoy the many options and swift decisions each needs to make.  Ticket to ride’s adventure is one any family will not want to miss.

Christmas is a perfect time for giving, sharing and playing favorite board games.  Any of the above games will pleasantly add to a family’s game night collection and will provide amusement for many days to come.
