The 1895 Game of Red Riding Hood by Parker Brothers is a stunning game to add to any collection. The artwork of both the cover and board are vibrant. Plus the theme of the game plays out one of the loved Fairy Tales of old.

The game is for two players. One person is the Wolf. The other Red Riding Hood. The winner is the first player to reach the Grandmother’s Cottage.  Each player starts on a different space, and moves through his or hers separate pathways.  However, each must get by obstacles.

Red Riding Hood has to maneuver past a fence or turnstile, make her way through a field of flowers, and then either has to cross over a bridge or a ford. Finally she has to pass through a gate to reach her Grandmother’s house.

The Wolf has to maneuver past a pond or a swamp.  He must also sneak by some woodsmen, go over a bridge, stepping stones, or get over a fallen tree to finally reach the Grandmother’s house.

Who will reach it first?

It all depends on the roll or spin of the spinner.

Each player moves accordingly to what is indicated on their spin. There are quite a few rules on how to move past the obstacles on the board. You must stop on the spaces with Stars, and exact counts to these and other spaces are often needed to move!  And if you don’t get these precise rolls, you wait on your space until you do.

It is a race and game of chance.

No matter though.  The artwork and story of the game is spectacular.  Red Riding Hood shown with the Wolf on the cover makes it a fantastic display piece.  I was so excited to add it to my collection, and share it here at the ‘Game Museum’.

Enjoy! Play a game today!
