Who will be deemed the most powerful merchant in Jaipur (available on Amazon)? This strategic and exciting game for two players by GameWorks will answer that question. Play of Jaipur is fast paced. It is a clever mix of strategy, with a bit of luck. Each game lasts usually less than 30 minutes and involves the buying, exchanging, and selling of valuable goods.

The game consists of 6 different goods cards, camel cards, tokens, and 3 seals of excellence.  The first player who receives two ‘seals of excellence’, during a game, consisting of rounds, wins.

To accomplish this, each player takes on the role of a trader in Jaipur. He can trade Diamonds, Gold, Silver, Cloth, Spice, or Leather.   On a turn, a player can either TAKE cards or SELL cards.  Never both.  Depending on which they do will determine if they receive any TOKENS.

To begin, 3 camel cards and 2 goods cards are placed, face up, in the center of the table.  Five cards are also dealt to each player.  The rest of the cards are placed face down at the end for a draw pile.

The Tokens are placed beside the cards as shown.  (Each good token, bonus tokens, and seals set out separately)

Each player will look at their 5 dealt cards, and if they have any Camels, they place them on the table, face up. It might look as follows:

Players are ready to begin! As mentioned, on a turn, a player can choose to either take a card or sell a card.

To take cards:

Players can choose to take one card from the market (the 5 face up cards in the center), and add it to their hand. This card in the market is replaced by the draw pile.

However, if a player chooses to take multiple cards from the ‘market’ and add them to their hands- they have to EXCHANGE them. If they take two (or more) good cards, they have to return the same amount of good cards from their hand OR from their ‘herd of camels’.

Players can also choose to take ALL the camels in the market. These are replaced by the draw pile.

To sell cards:

Players can choose to sell cards. For each good they sell, they take a token. There are a few ‘rules’ and ‘bonuses’ received on selling, but ultimately, this is how players gain points.

They first collect cards from the market to then sell them for tokens and bonuses.

The round ends when 3 types of goods tokens are depleted, or when there aren’t any more cards in the draw pile.

At this point, players will add up their Tokens. Whoever is ‘richer’, receives the ‘Seal of Excellence’ for that round. The first player to receive Two Seals, wins the game!

The game can be played light and fun, or more in depth and strategic. It all depends on which you’d like!

Either way, Jaipur is a great game to have on the shelf….. to bring down and play!
