1910 Enchanted Forest by Milton Bradley

The Enchanted Forest board game by Milton Bradley, published around 1910, is not to be mistaken for Ravensburger’s Enchanted Forest board game published in 1982. The games are quite different, and of course published decades apart. It’s interesting. There are a few same name games.  Another that comes to mind is Stop Thief of 1934 by Einson Freeman Co. and Stop Thief of the 1920’s by Wilder MFG.  I’m sure there are many more since there are thousands upon thousands of games out there. Maybe I’ll do a post on same name games sometime.

For now though, let’s explore the Enchanted Forest- the one by Milton Bradley.

The object of the game is to journey to Fairyland and be the first player to arrive there. In order to do so players must travel through the enchanted forest which is filled with monsters and other obstacles.

The cover of the game depicts this objective and is a wonderful piece of art. Two children are in the forest surrounded by forest animals and friendly fairyland creatures.  They have set off on their journey. Monsters await.

When you open the game lid, the game board is seen pasted to the bottom of box. A spinner and 4 player pawns are kept inside.

Players will begin their journey in the bottom left corner. The path spirals around into the center. Certain spaces landed on during this adventurous journey give instructions that must be followed.

The instructions written on the back of the lid offer a few clarifications to these.

Players who land on a Bird or Good Fairy spaces are allowed to pass safely over those stated obstacles. For instance, if a player had landed on Space 4, (which is a Bird and states, “Pass Giant, River, and Lion”) and he later lands on say the River Obstacle, he does not need to go back to space 28. He is allowed safe passage. He would also be able to ignore the drawbacks if he lands on the Giant and Lion spaces.

Also on the lid, it says two players cannot share a space. So if a player spins a number which would have him move to a space occupied by another player, he would not be allowed to move, and his turn ends without moving.

Finally, a player must win by landing on the FairyLand space in the middle by exact spin.

Simple, as many games are of this time.  However, a beautiful collectible and enchanting forest to imagine yourself journeying through.

Play a game, any game, today! Fun awaits you!
